Della Morte Dell'Amore - Sterling Pyrite Skull Pendant necklace

I wanted to make something a little different for Valentine's Day. Something edgy and with a Victorian vibe.
"Della Morte, Dell'Amore" ( title borrowed from an Italian film I love which means "Of Love, Of Death") explored the strength of these two concept as life truths that we can avoid. The Victorians knew this quite well and expressed in jewelry with what they called "memento mori" tokens, meaning "remember, one day you will die".

me·men·to mo·ri
məˈmenˌtō ˈmôrē/
noun
an object serving as a warning or reminder of death, such as a skull.

I don't consider this concept creepy, but more of a reminder to love with all your heart and to live life at its fullest.

The skull in the pendant is pyrite and I've adorned the cavity that was drilled on it with a Preciosa AB crystal, securely attached with resin epoxy (jewelry grade).
I've made its setting a very ornate pendant in sterling silver featuring a brass reproduction Art Nouveau heart topped by sterling roses and a ruby. I also added little garnets on the sides. It hangs on a 18" silver plated brass chain and it has a vintage Krementz rose closure salvaged from a bracelet.

This pendant was a challenge and it's not perfect, it has a couple of imperfections, (a tiny chip on the glass AB stone and a not so perfect bezel setting on one stone, that is still well in place, hence the price),but I think you'll love it as much as I've loved making it. I you need additional information, please feel free to contact me.

Very unique.

I stand behind my jewelry, however wear with care. Avoid bathing with this ring or excessively expose it to water and humidity as the finishes may be compromised over time.

*Please note that I do my best to describe colors and stone characteristics, as well as take photos in natural sunlight, but some variation may occur due to device settings.

If you have additional questions please feel free to contact me, I'll be glad to help.
